BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool) is a software tool able to find similarities between biological sequences (protein or DNA) and all the data present in official databases. It helps researchers in determining protein structure, function and evolution aspects. 
Nowadays the public online BLAST servers suffer from various problems, as slowness, long waiting time, low confidentiality, non exclusive access, no service customisations. Aethia has used parallel computing techniques in order to run BLAST queries in parallel on many computers and to obtain the same result in considerably less time. Putting this system on a computer cluster, i.e. a low-price parallel computer made of common computers connected by a network, gives you a complete solution for a local accelerated BLAST service. 
The exclusive characteristic of PowerBLAST is that it divides each single search into sub-searches, reducing the computing time even without other concurrent user accesses.
